Hi all! It’s that time of year for Poinsettias. Do you keep your’s all year, or do you purchase new ones every season? They’re fairly inexpensive. This year I decided to re-pot mine in this cute little planter I had.
The foil coverings are pretty just as they are.
Keep it watered, and feed it with an all purpose fertilizer once a week. After Christmas, place it in a cool location like a basement window. In spring bring it back into the warmth, and cut the branches back to about 6 or so inches to allow new growth. Water regularly and fertilize once a month. Pinch new shoots until September to make the plant bushy.
In late September start giving it completely dark 14 hour nights. You can put a box over it or place it in a closet that won’t be opened. During the day place it in a cool, but sunny area. Again, a basement window would be ideal. When color begins to show in the leaves you can stop the long nighttime treatment. It takes about 8 weeks to color.
I won this planter years ago at work. I don’t remember what the event was, but I think it’s the cutest thing. The wheels actually roll.
