Today I want to share how I decorated my outdoor urn for Christmas. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’m knee deep in Christmas decorations. Inside and out. I use this outdoor urn as a focal point in my Christmas decor. Our porch sits back from the front of the garage, so I like using this urn to attract the eye.
Our winters don’t typically get rough here until after Christmas. So I’ve been able to use these large faux picks for the past 3 years and they still look great. I got them at Hobby Lobby.
I stopped at my favorite garden center to purchase live greens. They are much less expensive than those at the local chain stores. And they look a lot healthier. I used the “thriller, filler, spiller” method.
I started off with my planter filled with the summer’s soil. It acts as my frog. Since the urn can be seen from 3 sides, I put the faux picks in the center. They are the “thriller”. That bright red does the job well.
Then I used Shore Pine and Noble Fir as my “filler”. I poked them into the soil near the picks.
Next I stuffed a strand of 100 lights around it.
Last, my sort-of “spiller” of Port Orford Cedar. It doesn’t really spill, but it does soften the edges.
Last, I got a bucket of water and soaked it good. Until we get a really hard freeze, I’ll keep the soil moist. Here’s a nighttime view. It’s still a focal point at night with all the lights on.
