Hi all! I want to share how I created the fabric backing for my china cabinet. Without this backing I think this piece would have turned out to be just another boring white cabinet. And the best part is that I can change it out easily when I get tired of the blue.
First I measured and marked 1/4 inch thick foam board to fit snug above the shelf. I used a utility knife to cut it. Since the shelving is wider than the foam board, I taped 2 pieces together with shipping tape.
Then I pushed the foam board onto the shelf to check for fit. A couple of times I had to do a little trimming.
Then I measured and cut my fabric making sure to have 4 inches extra on each side. My fabric wasn’t wide enough for 4 inches on the ends, so I had to make due with about an inch and a half. Be sure to iron your piece. Then lay the foam board on the wrong side of your fabric.
I started by taping down both long sides first, pulling it snug.
On each corner I created a fold by pulling it tight and taping it in place.
Then I folded the 2 ends down and taped.
When putting the finished piece in I had to do a little bending. The foam board was flexible enough to handle it.
A snazzy look for little work, wouldn’t you say?
I hope this was helpful!
