I prefer shadow boxes for my earrings. Why? Well, because I don’t like to dust. And I especially don’t like dusting earrings. They do require a good cleaning once in awhile, but weekly – it’s not going to happen here. So I put together this DIY earring shadow box. Let me walk you through the steps.
This was pretty easy and quick to do. I waited for shadow boxes to go on sale. They can be pricey. I also purchased some jewelry chain and 1/2″ cup hooks. To get started I used a small ruler to measure and mark where I wanted the cup hooks to go along the sides of the box.
I used a dremel to drill small holes. Then using my small pliers I screwed in the cup hooks.
Using the pliers to screw the hooks in was a lot easier than using my fingers.
Because I wanted my chain to be tight, I slipped the chain over the first cup hook, then slipped it over the corresponding cup hook before screwing it in. If I would have screwed the corresponding cup hook in before I slipped the chain on, the chain would have to be longer. A longer chain meant it would sag, and I didn’t want that.
I vacuumed the dust out, and I was done making an earring shadow box.
No. I wasn’t satisfied. I decided it needed a pop of color. I found this scrapbook paper in my stash. So I cut it to fit and glued it to the back.
All I had left to do was hang it in my closet. My earrings are now dust free. And as an extra bonus, they aren’t tangled up in a drawer.
