Hello friends. Do you have any windows that you wish you could take the coverings off? But you value your privacy? I have a couple of rooms with windows that I’d like to leave open. My front door side windows don’t require as much privacy as other rooms, so I decided to challenge those first.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, we were still using the shades the previous owner had installed. They were a good quality, but yellowed with age or sun. They blocked a lot of the light from entering, and I did not like that. If I pulled them up, every delivery man and solicitor could see right through the house.
I researched privacy window film. It’s not cheap. Some of the reviews complained about the lack of privacy, which made me hesitate. I finally decided to purchase Frosty Contact Paper. I figure that if it gives us enough privacy but doesn’t hold up, I will be willing to invest in ‘real’ privacy film.
I left the shades in place and attached the contact paper. That evening we turned all the lights on inside, and went out on the porch. We took turns trying our best to spy through the windows. You could tell when a figure walked past, but you couldn’t make anything out. I left the shade up for a few days. Just in case. Then finally removed them and patched the holes.
It’s been up for a couple of weeks now with no problems. Winter cold will be the real test. But at least I’ll feel comfortable purchasing actual window film.
Have you tried using privacy window film? I’d love to hear your experience with it.
