Hi all! The temperatures dropped today. It was nice and cool in the 60’s. I spent the whole day out in the gardens. Some weeding, some trimming, and planting fall flower bulbs. I bought these at Lowe’s. A couple of years ago I planted some tulip bulbs in my backyard. But my little doggy dug them up and ate every one! My last 2 dogs never bothered them. But this little gal thinks they are a tasty treat. She didn’t get sick, fortunately. These went into the front yard. I just hope no other wild critter gets after them.
I only bought a package of 10 daffodils and a package of 10 tulips. I decided to clump each variety together. I’ll look it over next spring and decide if I want to add more, and where. First I dug a large shallow hole in a sunny area. My tulip bulbs are about 2 inches tall, so the hole is about 6 inches deep. The neighboring shrub has some shallow roots running through, but hopefully they won’t stop the growth.
Then I placed the bulbs, pointy side up in the hole.
Then I covered it with the soil, a layer of compost over the top, and then mulch. A good watering, and that’s it. I did the same process with the daffodils. I’ll keep it watered until we get a good hard freeze. The hard part is waiting 5 to 6 months to enjoy them.
That’s another chore off my autumn task list. Woohoo. I’m halfway there. I hope to have it all done by Thanksgiving, so that gives me another 5 weeks. How is your fall chore list coming?
