We spent another weekend in the garage. This time we purged and organized the cabinets. A lot of nonsense went into the garbage, and that felt good. This is a shelving unit that I picked up from a thrift store years ago. It’s wood like a bookcase, but it’s too shallow to hold books. It’s perfect for displaying cans, though. We hung it right on the wall.
Here’s a before and after of our open storage. These units were left by the previous owner. The doors had been badly damaged, so we had to remove them. All the world could see our hot mess. A little organization and a lot of purging. We use these mostly for gardening related supplies.
I measured the open spaces. When shopping for bins I brought my tape measure along. I wanted to make sure they would fit.
These cabinets also got a good purge. We were able to put several items in it that had been just sitting on the floor. We’ve spent hours of the past 4 weekends working on the garage, which shows how desperate it needed attention. The payoff has made our lives more comfortable with all the conveniences we put into the organization.
Organizing isn’t just about looking pretty. You’ll want your items convenient to put away and convenient to find, or it’ll become a hot mess again.
I hope you are finding these garage organizing posts helpful. We aren’t finished and there are more posts to come.
