You can still use your garden to make beautiful floral arrangements for fall. Everything that’s in this arrangement came from my garden. Cockscomb is an easy to grow annual. I got the seeds from a friend last autumn, and planted them this year. It is so packed with seeds that it’s considered self-sowing. It has such a beautiful, vibrant flower. And stays gorgeous after it’s been dried.
I cut and dried some stalks a couple of weeks ago.
Then I purchased a cheap styrofoam pumpkin to use as a vase. I used a sharp knife to cut a funnel out of it. Keep your vacuum handy. It’s a messy job.
After stuffing the cockscomb in the pumpkin, I ‘shopped’ my garden. I found some black iris seeds on stems that I thought would add interest. I cut those and added them to the cockscomb. It was looking better, but needed more.
There is late blooming, light pink yarrow in my garden, so I snipped a few off and added them. It was looking a lot better. But I needed some green.
I chose some spent flower spikes from the butterfly bush. And there you have it!
Play around with cuttings from your garden. You might be surprised at what beautiful creations you come up with.
