Hi all! I am so excited to be able to start showing the organization that has started in our garage. Areas of the garage have been driving me insane. Digging through a mess to find something meant risking an encounter with a creepy spider. Now the weather has finally cooled down enough for us to get out there and take care of business. Let me show you the before.
Yep. It’s a pile of confusion. Let me explain. My hubby’s idea of organization is this. If it belongs in the kitchen and is in the kitchen, it’s organized. If it belongs on the workbench and is on the workbench, it’s organized. Maybe I have OCD, but this ‘before’ was driving me nuts. Hubby cooperates with all the organizing inside the house, and in fact loves it. He just doesn’t have the skill to figure it out.
The first order of business was to clear it off and get a coat of outdoor wood deck stain on it. It will hide the ugly smudges without us worrying about peeling paint. Even I know it’s pointless to paint the top of a workbench.
Three years ago I used this stain on the wood stairs leading into the house. It’s held up beautifully.
I only put 1 coat on. It’s looking nicer already.
Next we installed these Lynk roll out shelves. These will keep us from having to pull out a heavy tool that’s in the back.
Then we filled these Sterlite EZ Carry Large Storage Containers. I love that they have handles to pick them up. It’s nice to be able to see through the container and know what’s in it.
Every drill related item goes in the drill storage container. Every nail gun related item goes in the nail gun storage container. You get the idea. No more hunting through a mess looking for parts. You have no idea how frustrating that’s been for me.
And just because I’m a little over the top, I added labels. The lighting isn’t that great in the garage, and the faster I can find and grab what I want, the better.
One more before and after:
We also scrubbed the floor and bought anti-fatigue tiles for long standing projects. I tried to keep my mind on comfort, ease, and convenience.
We’ve got some more workbench and garage organizing projects that we’ll be working on. If you liked this post, please subscribe and come on back.
