I love a shiny kitchen. Keeping the kitchen shiny takes a bit of effort since it’s always being used. We both clean up messes as we make them, and again after dinner. But to keep everything looking good and the area healthy, I’ve broken the kitchen into 5 parts, or ‘zones’, for deep cleaning. Keeping on top of it means there isn’t much effort put into it.
Every morning, Monday through Friday, I clean one of the zones. Monday morning’s deep clean is the Coffee Zone. The coffee and sugar have depleted, and the coffee pot has been used numerous times.
I start by cleaning the coffee pot. I use salt and a damp rag to rub the stains off the glass. If you have stains that have built up, you might want to add some vinegar and ice, and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes.
Since I clean mine regularly I don’t have to do this. After I’ve wiped it out, I wash it with warm water and dish soap.
Now it’s time to clean the coffeemaker. I fill the pot with 2 thirds water and 1 third distilled vinegar.
I pour the mixture into the coffeemaker. While that’s brewing I move onto my next chore. Time to clean the sugar and coffee containers. I empty the contents into a couple of bowls, while I wash and thoroughly dry the containers.
I let the glass containers sit to air dry just in case there is some moisture in them. It’s now time to fill my coffee pot with all water, and brew it through the coffee maker.
Next I move onto the counter top. First I clean the back splash, then I use a granite polish on the surface. I’ve been real happy with Method.
And now it’s time again to run a pot full of water through the coffeemaker. While that last pot is brewing I move onto the cabinets that are above and below the coffee station. First I wipe them clean, then I use a furniture polish. I think the polish help keeps the dirt from sticking to the finish and creating stains.
Last I fill up the glass containers and top it off with the coffee and sugar that I put aside in bowls.
That’s it! It takes about 15 minutes. We have a shiny coffee zone and fresh tasting coffee for another week.
I hope that was helpful. Next week I’ll share my second kitchen zone cleaning.
