We’re going to be hosting a social at our home soon, and the theme is ‘Butterfly Garden’. Since I had so much tissue paper on hand, making butterflies for decoration made sense to me. I don’t care to use it for wrapping presents because it tears so easy, so it’s just accumulated and accumulated. I honestly don’t remember ever purchasing it either, but somehow it’s gotten into my house. Maybe I bought it to stuff gift bags. It’s amazing how easy it is to collect ‘stuff’ in your home without even being aware of it.
Onto the project. All you need is tissue paper and pipe cleaners. I cut 4 sheets of different colors 12 x 12 inches, and pipe cleaners 8 inches long.
Fold the sheets in half.
Then cut the edge like the picture below. There isn’t a word to describe that shape. I used my pinking shears, but you don’t have to.
Open it up, and scrunch the center.
Fold the pipe cleaner in half, and slip the butterfly into it.
Decide what length you want the body to be, then twist the 2 ends of the pipe cleaners to make antennas.
Pull the pieces of tissue paper apart carefully. This is the hard part.
That’s all there is to it!
They would be cute for a little girl’s birthday party.
I hope that was helpful, and if you want to see more crafts like this just let me know in the comments.
