Hi all. I hope your weather is great. Rain, rain, and more rain here. But inside my home it’s sunny and happy. I recently modernized my large kitchen wall clock. I had to, you know, after recovering my kitchen chairs (see here). All it took was a little paint and a little time. I’m not an artist (shucks), so I kept it simple.
Here is the before. Gorgeous if you like French country, but it’s not the look I’m going for. I want to keep the house looking modern and fresh. I don’t want it to look like HGTV, though. I want a bit of ‘me’ in it. I like the bright colors that are chic now. If the style turns dark, I may not follow the trend.
Do you have a collection of these half pints of paint from the hardware stores? I do. I love that they sell these nowadays. I use them on all kinds of little projects at a fraction of the cost that a whole gallon would cost. These are the little pots that I used on the clock.
First I put a couple of coats of Zinsser primer on it because the lettering was so dark. It dries very quickly.
Using painter’s tape, I was able to paint straight lines. You can see that I kept changing my mind on where to put the lines, because this is not my final decision. I played with it until I came up with a look that I liked. I finished it off by painting the hands and metal opening with metallic acrylic paint.
Here’s how it looks in the kitchen eating area. It definitely matches the look I want. I still need to do something about those valances, and I want to paint the light fixture. I like the look, but not the oil rubbed bronze.
It certainly puts us in a cheerful mood.
Take on some home projects and be daring!
