Spring is almost here and I’ve started thinking about decorating the deck with craft ideas. I’ve had these vintage keys for a few years now. I used to tie them up with ribbon and hang them from knobs or cloches as decor. But I’ve moved past my vintage-shabby chic stage. It’s time for a colorful modern look.
First I painted the keys and lock with Zinsser primer. Acrylic paint doesn’t hold up well on metal without it.
I used the metallic acrylic paints left over from my lantern project.
Then I cut various lengths of chain, and using jump rings attached them to a Dollar Tree wire basket that I painted gold.
Got some old metal keys? Try this project for a cute remake.
