Good morning! I’m excited to show my new cutting table. My son moved out a few months ago, and I took over his bedroom for my craft room. Its much bigger and brighter than the bedroom I was using. And plenty of room for a cutting table. I make about 100 pillow case dresses for Operation Christmas Child each year, and that’s a lot of cutting out to do. I have used my dining room table, but bending over it made my back ache. This past fall I just sat on the floor and cut them out. Sitting on the floor for hours made getting up a real effort.
After browsing Pinterest, I copied what a lot of others have done. I bought two Mainstay cubicle shelves from Walmart. They are 35 1/2 inches tall by 12 inches wide. After assembling them, we purchased a piece of half inch plywood at 4′ by 2′. My husband sanded the corners to round them off.
We just screwed them on in the 4 corners. I had screw covers left over from the shelves, and used them to cover our screws. Then I applied several coats of polyacrylic to the top.
My cutting mat fits on it perfectly. It’s sturdy and strong. I couldn’t be more thrilled. Now I just have to clean up an old bar stool in the garage and I’ll be set to go.
It’s one of those ‘why didn’t I do this sooner’ projects. How did I live without it? And I get more storage, too. I always need more storage.
If you don’t have one yet, you’ve just got to try this.
