Howdy all! Today I want to share my latest project. I love to cross stitch and I love to bead stitch jewelry, so I combined the two and I’m smitten. This is now my current favorite past time. I think the beads give the piece a sparkling look.
I used a piece of 14 count aida cloth that I had on hand. The seed beads are size 11 aught and the bugle beads are 1/4 inch. I used a size 10 beading needle to attach the beads.
The hardest part of the this project was threading the embroidery floss onto the needle. Thread one strand through the needle, pull the ends down together and knot. Now you have 2 strands of thread being woven through the beads. But trying to get one strand of embroidery floss through a size 10 beading needle is not easy. It’s doable, though.
Pass your needle up through the front of your cloth, add a bead, and pass down though the upper right hole of your square. Then pass your needle up through the bottom right hole, back through the bead, and down the upper left hole. So you will be passing the thread through a bead twice. Once from left to right, then once from right to left. This keeps the bead straight up and down. It’s not mandatory to do this. You could pass your needle through the bead once and let the bead sit at an angle. Whatever you prefer.
I found the snowflake pattern on Pinterest. There are lots there to choose from.
Have fun creating your own ideas.
