We’ve had so many rainy days, that I’m surprised that any of the perennials were able to bloom. But I guess overcast days don’t affect it. The garden is filling up with blooms.
The Stella de Oro daylilies are filled with flowers. They will re-bloom all summer, but not as profusely as this first bloom.
The Oriental Lilies have finally opened up. Sadly they only bloom once a year.
Yarrow is one of the toughest perennials. Easy to grow, and spreads fast. I like to use it as a cut flower for indoor arrangements.
Gaillardia, or Blanket Flower, will bloom all summer long.
The Hyssop is just getting started. It’s an herb, and will bloom all summer.
I only have one Red Hot Poker plant. It’s supposed to continue blooming all summer if I deadhead it, but last year I only got one bloom time. I’m hoping for more this year.
And the star of the garden: Butterfly Milkweed. Monarch butterflies’ favorite.
Right now there are bees in the garden and humming birds. But by August the garden will literally ‘hum’ with the sound of the bees.
I hope you enjoyed your tour. Happy gardening!
