I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I can’t believe how fast these long weekends go. So last week I said that I would share what I was making as a bowl filler, and here they are. Mini himmeli orbs. This bowl sits on my kitchen table. Originally I was going to fill it with faux fruit, but after some thought I came up with this fun idea.
I admit that I failed at my first two attempts, but third time’s a charm. So they say. My supplies were some cording, paper straws, a small crochet hook, and a ruler.
I made a variety of sizes of orbs. Just make sure you use one size per orb. I marked the straws and cut them to length.
I tied one end of the cord to the crochet hook. The hook was used to pass the cord through the straws with ease.
I passed the hook through three straws, and tied the cord into a knot.
I added two more straws onto my cord, and passed the hook through the last straw added.
That gave me another triangle. Then I passed the crochet hook through the last straw added.
Making sure the cord was tight, I made another knot.
I added two more straws to the cord, and passed the hook through the last straw added.
Now I had three triangles. I passed the hook through the last straw added, and tied a knot.
I kept repeating those steps until I had 5 triangles. I added one straw onto the cord.
And tied a knot, after pulling the cord tight through the top of the first triangle created.
It should look like this now.
Clip your cord. Cut a new piece of cord about 12 inches long. Pass it through the 2 end triangles.
Pull tight, and make a knot. Clip cord.
Then I spray painted the orbs different colors.
Once I finally succeeded in making an orb, the rest were easy. It’s definitely more interesting to look at than faux fruit!
Stay tuned. My next project is going to be a lot easier.
