Next week the painters are coming to paint the foyer, living room, dining room, and kitchen. I can’t wait and I dread it. I can’t wait for the new paint color, but I dread the mess. The house will be a disaster for a few days while everything is pulled out of the rooms. And while they are busy taking over the main rooms in my house, I’ll be in my craft room sewing pillowcase dresses.
I’ve cut out 70 dresses during the month of January. Lord willing, I’ll have them completed by 2016 Operation Christmas Child. They will be rolled up and stuffed into shoe boxes during our annual packing party.
Some of the fabric I found in thrift stores as curtain panels and flat sheets. But the bulk is from a wonderful lady who donated a stash of her fabric for the cause.
This year I’m going to try making them ‘assembly line’ style: all 70 dresses’ side seams sewn, all 70 dresses’ hemmed, etc. I might occasionally complete one, just to admire it. Last year I made them one at a time, and it felt like I was never going to get the 50 done that I had committed to. I’m thinking that maybe if I do all of one portion, I might get into a rhythm and not feel so defeated.
I best get on those dresses now!
