We had snow last night which brightened up the house so much, that I knew I had to get some photos. Lately I’ve been working in my hallway. It’s right off the foyer, so making it pretty has been important to me. It’s very uncomfortable for a guest to be walking through a gloomy hallway to the bathroom. I want my guests to feel comfortable and not like they are entering a private area where they shouldn’t be. Does that make sense? Has anyone else ever experienced that feeling? I created this mood board to get me started. Some of the items I already have.
Here’s what it looked like before I started:
The wall paint was too dark, so I painted it with Behr’s Campfire Ash, and painted the dresser a dark blue for contrast.
A problem that I had, was the bottom drawers on this old dresser. No matter how much my husband tried to plane them, they were always stuck and hard to open and shut. I was barely getting them open, and when I did I would shove stuff in them through a narrow opening. When I wanted something out, I dreaded the fight that was coming. The whole dresser would be moving around. It was time to ditch the drawers and turn the openings into shelves with plywood. Problem solved.
My plan is to paint the top a faux white marble, but I have to wait for spring so I can take the dresser out to the garage.
I’m keeping the same vignette items on the dresser as I had before. Once the paint has cured a lot longer, I’ll add my oh-so-heavy vintage Royal typewriter, too.
The top small drawers open just fine, so I painted the inside, cut foam board to size, and covered it in marble contact paper.
I got the hardest work done. The rest should be a breeze.
Hopefully, it’s already looking more welcoming.
