Hi all! How about a jewelry tutorial for a 2 strand floating bead necklace? This has to be the easiest method for whipping out a quick necklace. It’s classy looking and versatile. Make as many tiers as you want, with any mixture of beads and colors to suit your wardrobe. I made mine with navy and white beads because I didn’t have anything for this sweater.
So let’s get started. For the supplies you’ll need:
- beading wire
- lobster clasp
- 3 jump rings (I show 4, but I only used 3)
- 2 12mm white beads
- 6 12mm navy beads
- 8 6mm white beads
- 4 3mm fire polished faceted gem beads
- 2 6mm fire polished faceted gem beads
- 4 8mm bead caps
- 2 4mm Bali spacers
- 36 2mm crimp beads
- 4 3mm crimp covers
Let’s get started!
Cut 1 piece of wire 32 inches long, and a second piece of wire 28 inches long. We’ll start with the longest wire first.
Slip a crimp bead, bead cap, 12mm white bead, bead cap, and crimp bead onto your wire. Center them on your wire, and squeeze the crimp beads with your crimping tool.
*Now slip a crimp bead, 1 12mm navy bead, and a crimp bead onto your wire. There are no hard and fast rules about the placement of your beads, but I spaced the center of the groups at 3 inches apart. Squeeze the crimp beads in place.
Slip on a crimp bead, 4mm white bead, Bali spacer, 4mm white bead, and a crimp bead. Adjust them where you want to place them on your wire, and squeeze the crimp beads tight.
**Slip a crimp bead, 12mm navy bead, and a crimp bead onto your wire. Place and squeeze crimp beads tight. Slip on a crimp bead, 4mm white bead, and a crimp bead. Squeeze crimp beads tight.
You’ve got the idea now. It seems too easy, doesn’t it? Repeat the instructions from ‘*’ to ‘**’ for the other side of the wire.
For the shorter wire, you’ll repeat the first bead instruction for your center bead just like the first wire. Then you’ll add groups of beads:
***1 crimp bead, 12mm navy bead, 1 crimp bead. Squeeze.
1 crimp bead, 4mm fire polished bead, 1 crimp bead. Squeeze.
****1 crimp bead, 3mm fire polished bead, 4mm white bead, 3mm fire polished bead, 1 crimp bead. Squeeze.
Repeat ‘**’ to ‘****’ for the other side of the shorter wire.
For the ends of the 4 wires slip a crimp bead on each one, go through a jump ring, slip the wire back through the crimp bead and squeeze it closed. I put 1 end of each wire through the same jump ring for each side.
Trim the tail off the wire, and cover it with a crimp cover.
Add the lobster clasp to one of the jump rings, and you’re done!
And there’s your floating bead necklace!
I’m definitely going to wear it with this dress:
And this casual top:
I hope these instructions were helpful. Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried it and like the look. Happy beading!
